Top 25 Stocks Traded
at eOption in 2021
January 14, 2022
Every month at eOption we report on the top options trading in the prior month. Today, we have something different as we take a look back on the top 25 stocks traded at eOption in 2021.
The year ended with significant gains across most all sectors but it was a volatile ride. The main themes in 2021 were COVID, supply chain, chip shortages, Reddit, EVs, crypto/blockchain, China and (more) COVID.
Markets continued to digest the daily servings of news related to COVID. Airline stocks (BA and AAL) fly high and low throughout the year as we search for the “new normal”.
Reddit and Meme stocks (AMC & GameStop) were also took center stage in the news with polarized reactions to the price swings.
Mega techs had a strong 2022 with Apple approaching a 3 trillion valuation. Nvidia chip strategy impresses many investors and AMD comes along for the ride through the chip shortage crisis.
In the EV sector, Tesla proving that they can deliver a lot of EVs despite the chip shortage negatively impacting other auto manufacturers. Ford makes a solid commitment to EV strategy with the Lightning F150 beginning to roll off assembly lines. Former high-flyers QuantumScape and Nio saw major pullback over the course of the year as traders rethought their value.
Jumping on the crypto wagon, Block Inc (nee Square) changed their name. Marathon and RIOT saw a lot of interest in the year by traders on volatility which mirrored the price of Bitcoin.
Concerns around China’s attitude to the free markets came under question in 2021 and prices reflected traders risk concerns (BABA and NIO).
Lastly, on the pure entertainment front, the space race was on in 2021. We saw both Jeff Bezes (Amazon and Blue Origin) and Sir Richard Branson (Virgin Galactic) get their astronaut wings. Naturally, Elon Musk was part of the conversation as SpaceX had its first orbital launch with an all-private crew. We were impressed at what motivated billionaires can accomplish.
