U.S. stock futures are sliding, extending declines from earlier this week as rising inflation expectations have ramped up following the hottest CPI price increase in 12-years yesterday. The data comes ahead another key inflation report later this morning (8:30 AM) with the April producer price index (PPI) expected to rise as the MoM estimate for April at 0.3% and core PPI MoM est. 0.4% while on a YoY basis, final PPI demand est. 5.9% and PPI YoY core est. 3.7% – which follows the March 2021 PPI reading of 4.2% (which was the highest reading since September 2011’s 4.5%). Market participants have been quick to dump growth stocks amid the rising inflation, but concerns have recently spread to other parts of the market as well. Still, the Fed has insisted that any spike in inflation would be temporary, while Federal Reserve Vice Chairman Richard Clarida said Wednesday the central bank "would not hesitate to act” if necessary to bring inflation Down to its 2% longer-run goal. Markets sold off on Wednesday following the CPI data, with the Dow recording its worst day since January (2 days removed from all-time highs), while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq fell over 2%. Meanwhile, the 10-year Treasury yield is back up at 1.70%, a level not seen since the beginning of April. The Philadelphia Semiconductor (SOX) ended 4.2% lower, pummelled by an escalating coronavirus threat in Taiwan. Focus on Bitcoin prices overnight after Tesla Inc (TSLA) CEO Elon musk said it has suspended the use of bitcoin to purchase its vehicles because of climate concerns, sending Bitcoin prices to as low as $45,000 overnight before rebounding. In Asian markets, The Nikkei Index plunged about -700 point to 27,448, the Shanghai Index fell -33 points to 3,439, and the Hang Seng Index declined -512 points to 27,718.
